Saving for the future
People who work for delivery and home service apps, like Zomato and Urban Company, are starting to save money for when they get old. A retirement savings plan called the National Pension System helps them put money aside every week. Leaders from the pension company say this is a big step to help workers who do not have traditional jobs.
How the savings work
- Workers can put in up to 5,000 rupees a week.
- A special government database helped set up accounts for over one lakh workers very quickly.
- Artificial intelligence helps companies talk better with their customers.
Why this matters
Many app-based workers do not get regular retirement benefits like office workers do. This new plan gives them a safe way to build a savings fund so they have money when they stop working.
